Dear Takeshi Kaneshiro,
I feels like forever since I’ve seen you. Like I could ever forget your face:
Don’t you remember how we met? I know you may want to forget Returner, but you should fondly remember that crazy film. I saw our potential even as you worked your way through the alien time travel. Don’t remember the subsequent good times?
Red Cliff? This warrants a brief pause, because you KNOW my love of Zhuge Liang.
I even watched you in Fallen Angels and you KNOW how I feel about Wong Kar Wai. So where have you been?
While one might assume you have been up to no good, you clearly have been doing good stuff, starring in Peter Chan’s Wu Xia. Ok, let’s say it together: WU XIA! Just the name makes me giddy. And just when I think it can’t get any better, IT HAS DONNIE YEN ALSO! And just when I think my mind can’t take anymore. THEY TAKE IT OLD SCHOOL WITH JIMMY WANG!! Really?! YES, REALLY!
Don’t believe me? Look here! (I know since you are in the film you already know. I’m just telling the people).
How could I have ever doubted you? Ok, I will wait patiently for your return. The end of 2011 seems so far away. 😦
And it better be good. Just sayin’.

Ah lovely Takeshi!
I have the photo you have put in this blog as my desktop pic for my computer. I swear it’s not just because this old cougar loves gazing at Takeshi, but I really really liked his character in Red Cliffs. I am dealing with a few challenges at my workplace and the power seems to be all with our resident bullies. I put this pic on my computer to remind myself that a good strategist can take on a situation where they would seem to be outgunned and prevail.
Wu xia sounds good. Watched the wonderful Donnie Yen last night in Ip Man 2. Maybe it’s not as good as the first film but I still enjoyed it.
We are of two minds about Takeshi! I do not have him on my computer (you know on the screen, doesn’t mean he’s not somewhere else :O ) but was EXCELLENT in Red Cliff. Zhuge Liang is my HERO!
You reminded me to watch Ip Man 2. I did not know I was really watching Rocky 3? Honestly, tho, any opportunity to see both Donnie Yen AND Sammo Hung (who I’m still a little afraid of).
Yes – Sammo is a little scary in this film, and also in SPL. He is a great actor with a ton of screen presence (as is the old Donnie). Actually, I think Donnie and Sammo work really well together, both as actors and in a choreographer-physical performer collaboration.
YES, he is! Especially in that early scene with Simon Yam, and they are both in the cars? That’s when I made the conscious decision NEVER to mess with Sammo!
